RSVP PROGRAM
Program
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) offers adults a meaningful life experience through volunteer service that is responsive to community needs. RSVP provides opportunities for persons 55 and over to serve on a regular basis in a variety of settings throughout their communities. RSVP functions under the auspices of an established community service organization with funding support and technical assistance provided.
The Volunteers
RSVP volunteers serve in projects in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
Eligibility
Anyone age 55 and over is eligible to be an RSVP volunteer. Persons with disabilities are welcome to serve.
Service
RSVP volunteers serve through a variety of organizations, agencies and institutions designated as volunteer stations. The stations include courts, schools, libraries, day care centers, hospitals, nursing homes, economic development agencies and other community service organizations.
Volunteer services include adult basic education, mentoring, tax aides, consulting services, community policing, low cost weatherization and home repair, classroom aides, health care, substance abuse counseling, respite and in-home care, environmental surveys, telephone reassurance, and many other services.
To remain an active volunteer, one must serve at least one (1) hour every three (3) months.
Training
Volunteers receive in-service instruction and supervision from the Volunteer Coordinator at the non-profit agency/entity with which they serve.
Benefits
RSVP volunteers serve without compensation, but may be reimbursed for such expenses as transportation. Insurance protection is provided to volunteers while on assignment.
